As I sit here on another rainy day, pondering whether I will ever get onto another lawn again.
My mind starts to wonder whether rain is good for the garden in this volume?? Maybe not?
It certainly isn't any good for my arthritic knee, which is currently lying in a state of limbo awaiting the removal of some metalwork and a general tidy up....sounds quite like a garden I visited recently.
I quite often get the feeling of the onset of rain in my knee with some aching and a twinge of sharp pain, apparently there is some correlation between the two. This early warning system is often accompanied by a look at my trusty BBC weather app. and normally the two tie up.
The rain then inevitably comes and brings either a sigh of relief that the plants, lawn or trees you have planted finally get some welcomed moisture or a sigh that the lawn you planned to cut will be that much more difficult to do, or the flower bed you needed to dig becomes that much more heavy.
In the summer/ warmer times, rain is a refreshment and often needed but generally encourages growth and means more work will be needed, rain in the winter generally means a different thing especially at the moment, another day not on the lawn, another day planning, another day hoping the rain doesn't freeze and make an icy path, or even turn into snow. I find winter rain delays work and with that frustration partnered with shorter days brings a very sour taste to a season that can be so amazing.
A childhood favourite of mine "Eeyore" once said "The nicest thing about rain is that it always stops, eventually"
I think that sums the rain up, so however depressing or time consuming it can be or however the effects, affect you or customers, it always stops and always brings a fresh start and it might even wash away a few negatives that were in you life before".
